Dunkin’ Donuts

I have been carrying

In a thin white plastic bag

Two sandwiches

One steak on a roll, the other pastrami on rye

For two hours now.

The plan

Was (and still is, I suppose)

To eat them on the train.

The train, however, has been delayed

Due to equipment trouble,

Held in the in the Sunnyside Yard.

So the sandwiches, like me,

Wait

And instead of speeding down the Eastern Seaboard

I sit in Dunkin’ Donuts

In Penn Station—

Low ceilings

Florescent tunnels

Ache of lost grandeur

Drinking coffee

Gazing at the counter:

Plain croissant

Chocolate croissant

Bowtie

Frosted coffee roll

Cinnamon raisin bagel

Cheese Danish

Chocolate frosted

Vanilla frosted

Old fashioned

Chocolate chip muffin

Boston cream

Bavarian cream

French cream

French cruller

Plain cruller

Powdered sugar

Glazed

Chocolate glazed

Wildberry frosted

Pink that last one with what appears to be purple pebbles sprinkled into the icing.

Ah, America!

No matter what goes wrong

We can always get something to eat.
